Dr. Marten von Velsen-Zerweck

Marten is an emission trading markets pioneer. As co-founder of N.serve (2003) he built one of the first project developing companies in the EU ETS and initiated N2O reduction projects in the fertilizer industry worldwide. With Noocoon he addressed the building sector through AI-driven digital solutions for climate-positive electricity installations. For GFA he coordinated natural resource projects with a focus on large-scale afforestations, national park management, community forestry, and biomass energy across Asia and Eastern Europe. His roots in forestry science began with research in Mongolia’s primary boreal forests in the 1990s where he  developed his vision of financing national parks through ecosystem service markets. Marten holds a diploma in forestry science and a PhD in agriculture, University of Göttingen.

Christian Dannecker

Christian is a Co-Founder of South Pole, where he worked in multiple positions, latest as Executive Director Global Projects, and beforehand in roles as diverse as Director Latin America, Global Director of project sourcing and Sales Director for the FMCG sector. As part of his work at South Pole, he built up and oversaw a team of more than 150 experts and a portfolio of more than 700 emission reduction projects; helped growing Climate Friendly (Australia) from a carbon trader to a leading project developer and co-founded and served as member of the board in NatureRe Capital, a Swiss financier and developer of carbon removal projects. He also founded and directs Fundación Magnolios, a Colombian conservation foundation focused NGO. Christian holds a master’s degree in environmental science from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology.

Renat Heuberger

Renat is a globally recognized leader in climate finance, and co-founder of Swiss NGO myclimate, climate pioneer company South Pole and Terra Impact Ventures. With more than 20 years of experience in carbon markets and nature-based solutions, he has helped shape global thinking around ecosystem services. Renat now channels his entrepreneurial drive into advancing nature-positive investment models that regenerate land, build resilience, and create meaningful legacy.

Dr. Christoph Grobbel

With a background in environmental economics and policy, as well as engineering and macroeconomics, Christoph has been a central architect of numerous climate and land use initiatives over the past two decades. As co-founder of South Pole, he held the roles of the CFO for 12 years and the chairman for 9 years and acquired over EUR 220m from investors. Christoph has a sharp analytical eye for environmental assets, market instruments, and regulatory frameworks. At Nature Values, he leads thinking on risk, regulation, and the evolving value of ecosystem services.

Marco Hirsbrunner

Marco is a seasoned climate entrepreneur and co-founder of South Pole and Terra Impact Ventures. At South Pole, Marco had led the global project and consultancy portfolio, before acting as its COO for seven years. He developed a key project management software now integral to South Pole’s operations that became instrumental in managing over 1,000 projects and several thousand consultancy initiatives. He holds an MA in Media & Communications and Chinese Studies from the University of Zurich and completed executive education at the University of St. Gallen.

  • Development of >1,000 climate action projects (including NbS) financed by carbon and biodiversity markets, in more than 50 countries, including around 150 forestry, wetland, peatland conservation, agroforestry and ecosystem restoration projects. 
  • Successful planning, implementation and sales of Ecopoints (Ökopunkte) from interventions in Lower Saxony; and Structuring ecosystem service monetization projects – including carbon, biodiversity, soil, and water credits – across central and northern Europe.
  • Purchase, planning and management of a biodiversity offset / biodiversity credit project (Nature reserve) in the Colombian Andes since 2016.
  • Development of the “Sustainable Farming for the Future” future project, a regenerative‑agriculture project operating on over 10,000 hectares across Germany.

Trading & Brokerage

  • Trading of European biodiversity and carbon credits with delivery to large corporate clients Europe-wide.
  • Helping clients to achieve their carbon reduction goals by delivering more than 170 M carbon credits from around 850 different projects.

Project and Corporate Finance

  • Co-founders built South Pole into a climate-tech unicorn with ~1,000 carbon projects globally, and NServe, a climate-tech pioneer focused on N2O avoidance projects worldwide.
  • Raised over USD 500 million in impact funds, supported 500+ climate & nature startups, and served 1,000+ clients across environmental products and services in Europe and globally.
